Take My Hand Initially sparked by the feeling of wanting to be one thing, but life and circumstance making you something else — but then facing it all with a partner on equal terms may just be the answer. The initial idea was Lynne’s, then John stepped in and helped finish it.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John.
Fantasy A particularly bitter look at love; which always comes with a price tag and always ends in pain. Stunning electric guitar solo from guest musician Mike Baker.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John; Drums — James Billinge; Electric guitar — Mike Baker.
Birds In The Morning A story of what might be happening in any inconspicuous house in suburbia.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John.
Love So Right A true story that hit the papers a few years ago. Teacher and pupil hopelessly in love run away to France. He goes to prison and she promises to wait. Quite romantic and in its own way, quite lovely. He is out of prison now. She had waited a couple of months, then found a boyfriend her own age. So much for fairy tale endings.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne, John & Mike Baker; Vocals — Lynne & John; Drums — James Billinge; Tambourine — John.
Just A Man This is just a bit of fun. No message, no comment, just Doh! Men! They don’t understand, they can’t, poor things. Lovely contribution from guest drummer James Billinge who appears on almost half the album.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John; Drums — James Billinge.
Spaces John challenged Lynne to write a song which didn’t draw on her life in any way. Some pure fiction. He gave her the title of ‘Spaces’ which is empty and about nothing. What a challenge! She wrote this song about the space that was left when someone left her. Ah well! He tried.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John.
Home John had this idea of a ‘grass is greener’ song. Always wanting to be somewhere else, so you go there, and you want to be somewhere else. This is what Lynne came up with.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John.
Wish That I Wasn't There Lynne already had this chorus. The majority of the verse lyrics and rhythm came from John. The chorus speaks for itself — pure and simple. The verses are somewhat stronger in saying things are just not right.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John; Drums — James Billinge; Electric guitar — John; Tambourine — Lynne.
Souvenirs Most of us hang on to memorabilia of times gone by — perhaps a childhood memory, maybe a lost love. It often does no good to keep them; sometimes it is painful to stumble upon them but often you just can’t face getting rid of them.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John; Drums — James Billinge.
September Rain The product of a whimsical mood.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John; Tambourine — Lynne.
You Can Do No More John was at a concert. A lady was singing. It inspired the beginnings of this song, the first verse of which was hurriedly scribbled on the raffle ticket he had just bought.
Acoustic guitar — John; Vocals — Lynne
Rock Me Gently Lynne wrote this a long long time ago. Until now, Lynne had not been sure how to approach it in the studio. This time round they decided to let it develop in the studio. As it turned out, it was pretty much all there anyway.
Acoustic guitars — Lynne & John; Vocals — Lynne & John; Drums — James Billinge.
